Darien, CT

New residence completed 2001.
New pool house completed 2005.

Architect: Studio DiBerardino, LLC

Scope of Work:

New two story residence with 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 2 half bathrooms and future guest suite.

New pool house with bathroom/changing room, multi-purpose space and storage.

Surprises/Quirks/Restraints:

Programmatic requirements for the residence were a unique combination of a symmetrical front façade, reduced overall building mass, use of low maintenance exterior materials and a master bedroom suite located on the first floor.

Solution:

Symmetry was established by creating a master bedroom wing on one end of the first floor mirroring the form of the garage wing on the opposite end. Overall front façade mass was lessened by combining a lowered front roof eave line with larger second story dormers and shifting most of the second floor spaces to the rear of the residence. A two-story tower entry element unifies the façade composition.

Low maintenance exterior materials: brick veneer, slate roof shingles, aluminum clad wood windows, composite eave corbels, copper gutters were combined in the French Eclectic style.

Specialties:

Custom Indiana limestone features and accents at entry tower of residence, terrace and pool house.

Custom mahogany front door with leaded glass sidelights and transom.

Brick patterns include running bond, herringbone, rowlock and quoining.
